In 1937, Walt Disney Pictures created a legacy that would forever change the film industry. At the time, the company released their first animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The first Disney musical, the film introduced fans everywhere to the characters of Snow White, Queen Grimhilde, and all the seven dwarfs. During 80 years of film, Walt Disney Pictures would go on to introduce hundreds of characters to the world.Â
The '50s brought Cinderella, Alice and Peter Pan. Characters like Mowgli and Baloo were traipsing through the jungle in the 1967Â The Jungle Book. The next few decades would bring iconic characters like Ariel, Belle, Simba and Pocahontas to the screen. With an endless list of characters, can you remember all of the Disney animated characters?

A tiny blue alien, Stitch might not be the ideal puppy, but he’s the ideal best friend for Lilo. Stitch, also known as Experiment 626, is an illegal genetic experiment who has managed to escape from an alien planet and land on Earth.
In the first "Lion King" movie we meet Simba as a cub - playful, joyful and innocent. In the sequel, he is an adult male lion, the king of Pride Rock and the mate of Nala, with whom he has two cubs: a daughter, Kiara, and a son, Kion.

All he ever wanted was to be a villain. After failing to achieve hero status, Buddy Pine dubs himself a super villain.
Pascal is a cool character: he is a best friend of Rapunzel, he is a chameleon and he has an amazing sense of humor for such a small animal. Rapunzel's green buddy makes the movie "Tangled" so much better.

Betty Lou Gerson voiced Cruella de Vil. While her fashion sense is iconic, you don't see many fur coats made from Dalmatian hair.
Mister Smee is the only pirate to escape alive in the battles with Pan and his crew. It is said that he wanders around selling Neverland items, making a name for himself as the pirate that even Captain Hook feared.
Pegasus is Hercules' best friend, who was sent by Zeus to protect and support Hercules along the way. He was made by clouds. Even though he is a two-animal hybrid, he still counts as the most adorable Disney animal as well as the most loyal friend shown in Disney's animated features.

Unlike most of the Disney villains who died, Mother Grothel died of old age.
The tiny dragon Mushu from the Disney animated movie "Mulan" is also a guardian spirit, sent to protect Mulan when she decides to enlist in the army to save her village from the Huns. When the girl teams up with Mushu, together they defeat Shan Yu by blowing him apart with the Chinese New Year fireworks.
Not only does Jiminy Cricket sing the most inspiring Disney song ever, he also helps Pinocchio along the way. His main task in the movie is to keep the wooden boy in line, teaching him valuable life lessons about the dangers of temptation.

Timon and Pumbaa are the adorable meerkat and warthog who sang "Hakuna Matata" in the "Lion King" movie. Plus, this duo provided most of the laughs during the movie. It was greatly appreciated since "The Lion King" - even though it's a kids' movie - gets pretty dark at times.
In Bambi, we first meet the skunk when he is sleeping in flowers. When Bambi mistakes him for one, he accidentally names him "Flower." Whether or not this is his real name is unknown, but despite the irony, the cute and warm-hearted skunk doesn't mind being called Flowe
A kind and lovable bear gave us the song and motto "Bare Necessities," but he was also the "strict" teacher of the cubs of the Seeonee wolf pack. The fun-loving, easygoing, and good-natured bear, along with the grumpy panther, Bagheera, are arguably the main attractions of "The Jungle Book."

Everyone has seen the 1989 Disney classic, "The Little Mermaid," but it's a question we've all wondered since childhood - is Ariel's friend Sebastian a crab or a lobster? Disney says he is 100% crab and Sebastian calls himself a crab in the song "Poor Unfortunate Souls"; however, he looks like a lobster with his massive pincers and a head distinct from his body. So, it seems like this question will never be answered.
Shenzi, voiced by Whoopie Goldberg, was the leader of the three hyenas in "The Lion King." Her part was supposed to have been played by Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong (with Cheech playing the other hyena), but he wasn't able to take the part.
If you think Hades is trying to sell you something, you may be right. His personality is the creation of James Woods. He went in to his audition for Hades and portrayed him as a used car salesmen, selling not only his voice, but his ideas for Hade's personality.

Dug is a playful, friendly, social and lovable dog who is always kind to people. He loves almost everybody he comes across. Even though he is good at following rules, he gets distracted by some things, mostly squirrels.
Toby is the dog of Sherlock Holmes, who lives above Basil of Baker Street. Although he is Holmes' dog, he is Basil's best friend and helps Basil solve cases too.
Not all villains are completely evil. Sid makes a comeback appearance as a garbage truck driver in "Toy Story 3." Perhaps he was simply an imaginative kid who liked to mix things up a bit.

In "The Jungle Book" book, Kaa is actually Mougli's ally. Not so in the movie. Guess Disney thought that snakes were too closely tied to evil.
A cute little candy ball from "Wreck-it Ralph," Sour Bill serves King Candy. However, he is not always happy about his job, and some people even claim he may be depressed.
Jafar sports the usual colors of a villain. All Disney villains wear black, purple, red, or a combination of those colors, to represent the darkness.

Despite her name, Madam Medusa has no snakes in her hair. Her love for diamonds drives her to madness.
Shan Yu from "Mulan" is a human mortal but emulates an immortal being with his glowing eyes and large physique.
In early versions of the film, Gaston was supposed to have been killed by wolves after falling from the Beast's' castle. That was removed, but you can see skulls in his eyes during the close up of his fall, which signify his death.

In another evil dynamic duo, Flotsam and Jetsam were both voiced by the same actor, Paddi Edwards. This was convenient, since they often spoke at the same time and finished each other's sentences.
Chernabog is what you might call a rising star, at least for a fictional character. He started as nothing more than a demon gargoyle in a segment of "Fantasia," but has more recently been portrayed on "House of Mouse" and "Once Upon a Time." Rumor has it he may be getting his very own gig.
Jasmine's pet tiger name is Rajah, meaning “king.†He is Jasmine's best friend and fierce protector. He cares deeply for the princess and always supports her throughout the movie.

This cute raccoon from the animated film "Pocahontas" is so adorable - we especially love all of his hilarious reactions to events in the movie, his friendliness and his overwhelming love of food.
The original creator, JM Barrie, refused to reveal the actual name of the antagonist in "Peter Pan," and Walt Disney refused to kill him off in his adaptations, as most versions do. Turns out, this villain loved too much to kill.

Shere Khan is a cruel Bengal tiger that appeared in both Disney's 1967 animated feature film, "The Jungle Book," and its 2003 sequel, "The Jungle Book 2." His name may have originated from the nickname of the Afghan warlord who ruled in India, Sher Shah Suri.
Bolt is the star of the biggest sci-fi/action TV show in Hollywood. But he doesn't know that this is just a show - for him, all of this is real. After he's accidentally shipped to New York City and separated from Penny, his beloved owner, Bolt does everything he can to find a way home.
It's hard to find a fish more hospitable, more friendly and more sociable than Dory. She tries to become friends with anyone she meets on her way. And even though she would love to chat with you and tell you her life story... she can't. Dory suffers from short-term memory loss and doesn't remember anything about her childhood or parents.

The cute rabbit named for his habit of thumping his left hind foot, Thumper was a devoted and loyal friend, always there for Bambi.
In true villain fashion, when playing Maleficent, Angelina Jolie's costume was so scary that none of the actors hired to play young princess Aurora would stand by her. So Jolie's daughter played the part. Maleficent's dress in the original film was supposed to make her look like the most evil of villains.
"Off with their heads!" exclaims the infamous Queen of Hearts. In her childlike manner, she is a ruler displaying toddler temper tantrums. Don't make her mad.

King John has been portrayed with numerous personalities. Disney made him a sort of cowardly lion, while other versions show him as a more aggressive man who rules harshly. No matter how he's portrayed, everyone agrees King John was one of the most disliked, terrible kings in history.
Si and Am make up two halves of a whole. The couple is a pair of SiAm-ese twin cats in "Lady and the Tramp." With double the trouble, these cats are manipulative and I wouldn't want to cross them.
Sven is the devoted pet reindeer and best friend of Kristoff, a rugged mountain man. According to the book "Frozen: The Essential Guide," Sven was rescued by Kristoff as a young calf and remained his loyal friend and companion ever since.

In a groundbreaking move, Disney created "Snow White" as a full length animated film, the first of its kind. The Evil Queen was the very first to speak, paving the way for many more animated dialogues.
Poor Sir Hiss. He is constantly being stuffed into a basket, or being knocked on his head. Prince (King) John's sidekick is always finding himself in undesirable situations. But he so badly wants to please his master by finding and capturing Robin Hood.
Claude Frollo may have been a religious man, but his villainy would make any man question his faith. He seems to be one of Disney's darkest villains, and possibly one of the most realistic. He uses his power for evil, but seems to explain it away with talk of God. He is a reminder that you shouldn't base your opinion of a group of people on only one of its representatives.

King Candy seems to be a modern-day version of the King of England during the time the U.S. was trying to gain its independence from Britain. He forcefully gains power and rules over Sugar Rush.
One might see Madam Mim as comic relief. She is cool because she can turn into a dragon. Who doesn't want to be a dragon?
Most people do not want to be known as terrible. But for Pat Carroll, playing the evil sea witch was one of her favorite parts. She loved it so much, that she voiced the character multiple times, including the TV show and video game.

Governor John Ratcliffe was a real-life boat captain on the Discovery ship. Perhaps he was portrayed as hating the Powhatan tribe of Pocahontas because, in real-life, he saw them as barbarians. Recorded eyewitness accounts of the real John Ratcliffe say that he was burned at the stake after his skin was scraped off with mussel shells by the people of the Powhatan tribe in 1609.
