When you think about the 1980s amid all the big hair, boom boxes, neon and shoulder pads, some of the most successful movies were released. We saw a rise in science fiction and adventure films, as well as classic remakes and numerous sequels being created. We also saw musical and dance montages and the formation of the Brat Pack.
Some of the most popular ones include Back to the Future, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Return of the Jedi, The Shining, The Terminator, The Breakfast Club, Aliens and Rain Man. With the popularity of many of those movies, certain celebrities' careers skyrocket and are still known today for some of the iconic roles that they played. We also heard some of the most memorable movie phrases like "I am your father", "I'll be back" and "They're her-ee", many of which are still being said more than three decades later.

Friday the 13th is a 1980 American slasher film which followed a group of teenagers who were murdered after trying to reopen an abandoned campground. The movie, which was directed by Sean S. Cunningham, included actors like Kevin Bacon, Betsy Palmer, Harry Crosby and Adrienne King.
The Lost Boys is a 1987 American horror comedy about two brothers (Sam and Michael Emerson) who move to California and end up fighting a group of vampires. The film’s name was based on the lost boys from J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan.
Back to the Future is a 1985 American adventure film starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson. Michael stars as the teenager Marty McFly who is sent back to 1955 where he meets his future parents and accidentally becomes the object of his mom’s affection.

Die Hard is a 1988 American action film based on Richard Thorp’s book series which starred Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman and was the first of the Die Hard franchise. It followed an off-duty police officer who was caught in a Los Angeles skyscraper during a heist on Christmas Eve.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is a 1982 American science fiction film which was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Drew Barrymore, Henry Thomas and Dee Wallace. The movie follows a young boy who befriends an extraterrestrial and tries to help it find its way home.
The Little Mermaid is a 1989 American animated film which was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animations. It followed a mermaid princess name Ariel, who makes a bargain with a sea witch in order to become human and meet a human prince.

Top Gun is a 1986 American action drama film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson. The film stars Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis and follows a young naval aviator who is given the chance to train at a Navy’s Fighter Weapons School.
Ghostbusters is a 1984 American comedy film which starred Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. It follows three professors who set up a ghost removal agency in New York city. The movie inspired several video games, its own animated series and a 2016 remake.
The Shining is a 1980 horror film based on a 1977 Stephen King novel with the same name. The movie follows an aspiring writer who accepts the position of off-season caretaker at a historic hotel which is influenced by supernatural forces.

The Breakfast Club is a 1985 American comedy drama film and one of the famous John Hughes movies. It follows a group of five teens who come from different high school cliques who happen to spend Saturday detention together. The actors in the movie make up the famous Brat Pack, who starred in a string of movies together.
Silverado is a 1985 American western film starring Danny Glover, Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner and John Cleese. It follows a bunch of misfit friends who try their best to correct the injustices that exist in their small town.
Gremlins is a 1984 American comedy horror film which tells the story of a young man who received a mysterious pet as a present from his father with specific instructions about its care. When they are not followed, the pet gives birth to an evil and destructive little creature.

Scarface is a 1983 American crime film and is a remake of the 1932 film with the same name. The film tells the story of Tony Montoya who arrived in Miami with nothing and becomes one of the most powerful drug kingpins. The movie starred Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert Loggia.
Full Metal Jacket is a 1987 British-American war film which was based on a novel called The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford. The movie, which was named after a type of bullet, follows a group of U.S. Marines as they struggle through training and also through the Vietnam War.
The Blue Lagoon is a 1980 American drama film which was based on a 1908 novel by Douglas Day Stewart with the same name. The film stars Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins as two children who end up shipwrecked and learn to explore much more than the island that they are stranded on.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back is a 1980 American space opera film and the second installment in the Star Wars trilogy. It follows the rebels who were overpowered by the Empire and Luke Skywalker, who began his Jedi training with master Yoda.
