Slang is hard to pin down sometimes, so it's likely no one is ever going to tell you where the terms "big spoon" and "little spoon" first came into common usage. Even spooning in reference to some kind of cuddling or snuggling is hard to pin down, because it comes from such an obvious source. People fit together like spoons, who could have been the first to notice that? Probably not even worth thinking about, especially since it's a lot more fun to just actually do some spooning yourself. What's not to like about it? You feel safe, warm, secure and loved. That's good times right there. But as with all things in love that require a partnership, from driving a car or being the passenger to sleeping on the left side of the bed or the right, you need to decide where you fit in the equation.
