About This Quiz
Embarrassment is one of the worst feelings a person has to endure. A negative emotion like sadness or anger is at least a bit easier to swallow because you often feel like you have a degree of control over the matter. Embarrassment tends to come on very suddenly and in a way that leaves you exposed and vulnerable. It's not something anyone wants to experience.
There are a few lucky people in the world who seem never to be embarrassed, and they probably have no idea how lucky they truly are. The rest of us are just coasting through life, hoping nothing ever happens that puts us on the spot in that embarrassing way again. But try as we might, it's going to happen eventually. It always does.
Knowing that you can't help but be embarrassed sometimes might make you wonder about the way you deal with that embarrassment. There are definitely different ways to approach that feeling. Interestingly enough, the reaction most of us have to embarrassment can be very similar to the way some animals behave in nature. Without even knowing it, your embarrassed self is probably channeling nature. Do you want to know what animal you become when you're embarrassed? Take our quiz and find out!
Let's just jump right into it. What's the most embarrassing thing you can think of?
Farting loudly at a formal event
Sending a private text to the wrong person
Being laughed at during an intimate encounter
Walking into a window thinking it's a door
How do you usually deal with an overwhelming problem?
I ignore it for as long as possible.
There's a mysterious thump from the cellar when you're home alone. What do you do?
Turn up the volume on the TV
Just chill, everything is probably fine.
Overall, would you say you're easily embarrassed or not?
More than I'd like, I guess.
It takes a bit of work to embarrass me.
What's a feeling you hate more than embarrassment?
Your best friend is getting married, and you're supposed to get up and give a speech in front of the whole wedding. Can you handle it?
I'd rather not, but if my friend needs me I'll try.
That's going to be rough.
I can just get in the zone and do it.
Do you tend to get more embarrassed by things you say or things you do?
Could be either way, but it's usually unintentional.
What can make an embarrassing situation even more embarrassing for you?
If people keep bringing it up later.
If it happens in front of a lot of people.
If I thought I was doing something the right way and it turned out I wasn't.
If people make fun of me.
Suppose you slipped on some ice and fell. Then you find out someone filmed it, posted the video, and it went viral. How would you react?
I'd stay offline for a long while.
I'd delete my online presence.
I'd try to laugh it off with everyone else.
Sometimes you just can't be bothered to cook. What's the best fast food restaurant?
Would you rather go through a whole conversation with someone you're trying to pick up with food on your face or have your pants fall down when you're crossing a street?
I'll take the pants fall.
I'll go for the food face.
At least it's only strangers on the street; I'll take that.
Have you ever watched a show or a movie and felt embarrassed for the characters?
I have to change the channel when that happens.
Yes. Cringe-watching is so weird.
No, I kind of like watching other people be embarrassed.
I don't feel that way for fictional people.
Have you ever sent a text to someone by accident when you meant it for someone else?
Not super bad but a kind of embarrassing one.
Yes, it happened more than once.
Once, and I hope it never happens again.
If someone walked in on you while you were in a public restroom, how would you react?
Depends on the person, for sure.
I'd have to leave wherever I was.
I'd get dressed faster than you could imagine.
Do you feel like you get embarrassed more often now or when you were much younger?
I think it's about the same.
I'm not sure. I guess I get embarrassed by different things now.
In a group setting, are you ever afraid to speak out because you don't want to draw attention to yourself?
Sometimes, but it depends on what I have to say.
Have you ever done something embarrassing and then tried to cover up for it by outright lying about what happened?
I would rather leave the situation then think of a lie.
There have been times when I tried to cover something up with a lie.
What do you do if you run into an old acquaintance and can't remember their name?
I can probably talk for a while without needing to know their name.
I'll try to end the interaction as fast as possible.
I dance around the issue.
Have you ever been so focused on looking cool doing something you ended up having an accident because you weren't paying attention?
No, but that sounds like something I'd do.
That's not really my style.
This one's the worst. Have you ever been out walking and talking with someone and then noticed the person you're talking to is a total stranger?
I did that a lot when I was a kid.
I'd just keep walking if that happened.
I have never experienced this.
This isn't easy to do, but it's not impossible. Have you ever been embarrassed by something you did that no one else saw or heard?
Ah yes, the self own. I know it well.
Yes, but the feeling fades quickly.
No, how does that even work?
Have you ever said, "you too" after a server at a restaurant said, "enjoy your meal?"
I thought I was the only one!
I have, but just once and I will never do it again.
What do you do when you make a Freudian slip and say something very inappropriate in front of others?
I'll pretend it didn't happen.
Time to end the conversation
If you're out of the house and somehow manage to sit on food that stains your pants, what do you do?
Tie something around my waist to hide it if I can.
I'm heading back home double quick.
Clean it up as best as I can.
Too many doors look exactly the same. Ever entered the wrong room and had a bunch of people just stare at you?
That's why I always open and peek in first.
Yeah, I left really fast.
Have you ever returned someone's wave only to realize they were waving at someone behind you?
That's why I nod instead of waving.
Ever been talking to yourself only to realize there's someone around who can hear you?
Thankfully I don't talk to myself.
There's no easy way to ask this one. Have you ever lost control of your bodily functions out in the world?
I have, and it was worse than you can imagine.
I would never go outside again if that happened.
Yes, but I was very sick at the time.
Have you ever been on social media replying to someone with a super witty or insightful comment and then realized it's riddled with typos after you post it?
I always edit before posting for just that reason.
The English language can be confusing sometimes. Have you ever found out that a word you thought you were using correctly meant something totally different?
