About This Quiz

British politics has always been aware of the fact that sometimes, it can be a very silly affair. Indeed, there's even a portion of the political calendar known as "Silly Season," when ridiculous stories are dumped into the news cycle in the hope that the summer holidays will mean nobody takes any notice of them. There are plenty of additional absurdities in the system, too. For example, candidates actually wear rosettes and have to stand next to their opponents as the results come in, and the first-past-the-post system creates wildly distorting results where a party can take 60% of the seats with just 40% of the votes. Meanwhile, leaders can change without calling elections, and elections can be called (with the consent of Parliament) just about every other week, in theory.

It's all quite ridiculous, and that's before you've even begun to discuss actual policy, ideology or principle. That means that it's all too easy to disengage and just decide that you're not going to bother voting or paying too much attention. Of course, this only makes the problem worse, and the real solution is to stay informed, know what you stand for and what you expect from your leaders, and show up at the ballot box. Recapping your priorities and beliefs will help you stay inspired to do so, and thus continue to do your part as an active citizen who cares about their country. Take this quiz to review your political preferences, and help you stay on the ever-shifting ball that is our political landscape today!
