Can You Identify These F1 Teams from Their Car Colors?

Mercedes have raced in Formula 1 many different times, having first entered the sport in 1954. They are currently a team that has dominated over the past number of years and their cars are always silver, hence their nickname ‘The Silver Arrows'.

Red Bull cars are certainly easy to spot on the Formula 1 track with their Bull logo emblazoned over their cars, their deep blue color schemes and matte finish. Red Bull has won four constructors and drivers championships since their inception in 2005, a significant achievement in a few short years.

Although McLaren has now fallen on hard times, the team was once so formidable, just winning one race in a season against them was a reason to celebrate. McLaren was once the team of choice for legendary Ayrton Senna. Their colors have changed over the years, but they are remembered for their cars with the Marlboro livery and red and white colors.

Another successful British team, Williams has won 114 races since their inception in 1975. Their drivers have won the F1 championship on seven occasions. Sadly, like McLaren, they have struggled over the past few years.

Renault has had a number of stints in Formula 1, both as an engine supplier and as a constructor. They first entered the sport as a constructor in 1977 but it was a period in the mid-2000s where they found their success with Fernando Alonso winning the world championship in 2005 and 2006, breaking Ferrari's dominance in the process. Although today they race in yellow colors, it was their winning team colors of light blue and yellow that they are most fondly remembered for.

Tyrrell was a very successful British team that entered Formula 1 in 1968 and remained for 30 years, winning one constructor and three drivers championships. They introduced a six-wheel car in the 1970s in a with a blue and white livery.

The team that launched Michael Schumacher to superstardom, Benetton, raced in Formula 1 from 1986 to 2001. Over the years, they had many color schemes with their multicolored car of the late 1980s being fondly remembered today.

Another classic Italian Formula 1 team, Maserati was one of the earliest participants in the sport. Juan Manuel Fangio, driving a Maserati 250F, won the world championship in 1957. Of course, his Maserati was red.

Manor spent just one season in Formula 1 in 2016. Their team colors were orange, white and blue.

Penske was the last American team to win a Formula 1 grand prix and raced from 1974 to 1976. Early Penske cars were decked in a beautiful red, white and blue livery.

Formed by Irish millionaire Eddie Jordan in 1991, Jordan was part of Formula 1 till 2005, securing four race wins. Although they had many different color schemes, their bright yellow one from the late ‘90s and early 2000s certainly stands out.

Brabham was a highly successful Formula 1 team started by Jack Brabham in 1962. They raced in over 400 grand prix, winning 35 and securing two constructors titles and four drivers world championships. Brabham colors changed over the years, but they are perhaps best remembered for their black and white color scheme in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.

Swiss team Sauber was the brainchild of Peter Sauber and has spent 25 years in Formula 1, first racing in 1993. They have secured one race victory during their history. Currently, their car livery is predominantly white with a red section behind the driver cockpit.

Alfa Romeo was one of the earliest teams in Formula 1, periodically reappearing as a constructor in the sport. They won the first two drivers championships in 1950 and 1951, and of course, their early cars were red!

Brawn GP spent one season in the sport of Formula 1, and what a success that 2009 season was. The team won the constructors and drivers championship, racing in cars that were predominantly white.

During their time in Formula 1, Matra raced in 61 grand prix, winning 9. They won both the constructors and drivers championship in 1969. This French team's colors were light blue.

The sister team to Red Bull, the Toro Rosso team isn't as successful are their sibling constructor. They are easily identified with their bull logo and shiny blue livery.

Honda has supplied engines in Formula 1 for many teams over the years, but they entered the sport as a constructor during various periods between 1964 and 2008. In their final season, their car was predominantly white with some green and blue.

First based in the United States and later Britain, Shadow Racing Cars raced in Formula 1 from 1973 to 1980 without much success. As you'd imagine, their color scheme was all black.

American-based Haas Racing joined Formula 1 in 2016. There color schemes have changed each year, with 2018 featuring a white, red and black livery.

Toyota was a participant in Formula 1 from 2003 till 2009, racing in 140 races but never winning. Their vehicles were poetically painted red and white.

Arrows entered Formula 1 in 1978 and participated until 2002. Always near the back of the field, Arrows only secured nine podiums in 394 races. Jos Verstappen, father of F1 driver Max Verstappen, secured a 4th place finish in 2004, racing the very bright orange and black A21 F1 car.

Force India entered Formula 1 in 2009 and despite some recent financial problems, have been ever present. After initially having their cars' livery the same as that of the Indian flag, they introduced a pink paint scheme in 2017 which proved popular.

Surtees Formula 1 team spent nine seasons in the sport. Formed by former F1 champions John Surtees, there cars were a range of colors over the years. The TS19 from 1976, with its white and red color scheme, stands out, however.

There could only be one color for Jaguar in Formula 1, could there not?British racing green with some white was, of course, the most suitable livery for this legendary automaker. It didn't help the team much, however, and they left the sport after five seasons in 2004.

Minardi has spent most of their Formula 1 existence at the back of the field. They were active from 1985 to 2005, scoring only 38 points during that period. Minardi's team colors changed many times, often based on sponsorship deals. Their last Formula 1 car, the PS05, was predominantly black and white.

Ligier were involved in over 330 Formula 1 races from 1976 to 1996. Their team colors were mostly light blue during much of their racing career.

Lotus was part of Formula 1 from 2012 to 2015, securing two race victories in 77 races over that period. Their livery, mostly black and yellow, was based on the John Player livery from the 1970s.

Hesketh raced as a Formula 1 team from 1974 to 1978 and had only one victory, thanks to future champion James Hunt, in 1975. His victory came in the 308B race car, which had a beautiful red and white livery.

From 2006 to 2009, BMW had their own F1 team after buying Sauber. They were not very successful, only managing 1 victory. Their car colors were mostly white with some blue.

March took part in Formula 1 for a period of over 20 years and used various color schemes, including light blue on the 881 model from 1988, the first car designed by the legendary Adrian Newey.

A Formula 1 team based in Britain, Ensign was Formula 1 participants throughout the 1970s and early ‘1980s. Their best season came in 1977, where they scored 10 points in the N177 race car ... maybe because it was red like a Ferrari.

Founded by Formula 1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi, the Fittipaldi team spent eight years in the sport. Toward the end of their run, Fittipaldi cars were mostly yellow.

Cooper-Climax spent almost two decades racing in Formula 1. Their 1961 T54 driven by Jack Brabham was mostly British racing green and white.

Footwork Arrows only spent a year in Formula 1 in 1991 where they were not very successful. Their team colors were white and red.

A sad tale indeed. The Mastercard Lola team raced just once in 1997. Their car was so poor that it was 11 seconds off the qualifying pace at the Australian Grand Prix. Team colors were orange, blue and red

German Formula 1 team Zakspeed were entrants in this form of racing from 1985 to 1989. They only managed two points during this time. Team colors were red and white.

Founded by legendary driver Jack Stewart, the Stewart Formula 1 team were not nearly as successful as he was but did manage a grand prix win. The team lasted from 1997 to 1999, racing cars in a white livery.

Super Aguri raced for three seasons from 2006 to 2009, racing in 39 races. Their team colors were white and red.
