About This Quiz
The very first "Harry Potter" film was released back in 2001, and the films have gained so much momentum that they've made the author of the books, J.K. Rowling, one of the richest women in the world. But more than that, these characters and the magical world they come from have touched so many hearts that the series became a worldwide phenomenon. Bringing these characters to life was no easy task, but the actors who starred in the movies got the job done. But how well do you remember them? Better yet, do you remember the movie they entered the series in?Â
For most of the characters, the first movie they starred in is the same as the book. Except for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which was split in two, if you remember when the characters were introduced in the books, you should do pretty great in this quiz. So, if you think you remember when Dobby first went to Privet Drive and when Horace Slughorn's cowardice was shown on the screen, come take this quiz. Harry Potter is the star of the "Harry Potter" book series, the first of which was launched with "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (or "Philosopher's Stone" in the U.K.). Film adaptations were later made, and loyal fans followed Harry through his journey and trials in the magical world as he grew from child to adult.

Neville Longbottom was introduced in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" as a shy, absent-minded boy and a classmate and eventual friend to Harry. Harry and his other friends often save Neville from bullies, and their loyalty to him pays off in the end, as Neville matures and helps to defeat the Dark Lord.

Sirius Black, who is also known as Snuffles or Padfoot, is Harry's godfather and only living relative throughout the series who loved him. He often provided guidance and insight to Harry, despite his reputation of being a cold-blooded killer. Sirius was first seen in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."

Albus Dumbledore is the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and makes his first appearance in the first film when Harry attends his first day at school. Dumbledore became a close friend and confidante to the orphaned and sometimes lonely Harry.

Fred and George are the older redheaded twin brothers of Ron Weasley. We first meet them at King's Cross Station in the first film, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." These mischievous brothers join Harry and friends in the Battle of Hogwarts, where Fred meets his untimely death.

Ronald Weasley is Harry's redheaded best friend whom Harry first meets on the King's Cross Railway Station on his way to Hogwarts. The friendship between the two grows and matures throughout the years, and their faith and trust in each other are ultimately tested but prevail.

In "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," Remus John Lupin took up teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. This teacher was a close friend of Harry's father, James, and also a skilled wizard who taught Harry how to summon a Patronus to guard himself against the Dementors.

Luna Lovegood was a young, eccentric witch of Ravenclaw House first seen in the fifth film of the series. She became a good friend to Harry and joined in the fight against the Dark Lord when she became a member of Dumbledore's Army and later fought in the Second Wizarding War. Later on, Harry named his daughter Luna after her.

Dobby was a male house-elf once employed at the Malfoy household until Harry tricked the wicked Lucius Malfoy into freeing him in the "Chamber of Secrets" film. Dobby remains loyal and grateful to Harry and friends up to his final moments, often aiding them through difficult situations and providing valuable information about the magical world.

Lord Voldemort, also known as the Dark Lord, is Harry's chief antagonist in the "Harry Potter" film and book series. In "The Goblet of Fire," Voldemort is first seen in full human form when all his evil plans work in his favor. This was part of his series of revengeful acts against Harry, The Boy Who Lived.

Nymphadora Tonks, also known simply as Tonks or Dora, was an Aurora from The Ministry of Magic who first appeared in "The Order of the Phoenix" as a member of the Order. She served as Harry's protector and that of Hogwarts as well during Lord Voldemort's return, where she was ultimately killed during battle.

Professor Minerva McGonagall was a strict teacher of Transfiguration at Hogwarts, where she also served as Deputy Headmistress. In the first film, McGonagall was featured, and it was revealed that she had great insight into Harry's plight and appeared to have a hidden affection toward him.

Draco Malfoy has been there since the beginning. He is in the Slytherin house and often is seen as a talented bully.

Severus Snape, often referred to as Professor Snape, was a Potions teacher and the Head of Slytherin House. Snape's deathly stare at Harry in the first film foreshadowed the hostility that would ensue over the years. In the end, Snape proved to be a misunderstood man who actually did care for Harry.

Nagini was Voldemort's pet snake that we first saw in the fourth film, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." Nagini was a venomous snake that Voldemort often used to do his bidding; Nagini was his living Horcrux that killed then impersonated a dead elderly lady in order to capture Harry.

Vincent Grabbe and Gregory Goyle were Slytherin students at Hogwarts and Draco Malfoy's henchmen that we met in the first film. The duo exercised mischief upon Harry and others based on orders from Draco. Crabbe was more intelligent than his counterpart Goyle and had a fair grasp of the dark arts.

Buckbeak was a hippogriff Harry was introduced to in the first film by his teacher and friend, Rubeus Hagrid. When Hermoine and Harry saved him from an unfair death sentence, he seemed to be loyal to them, though his affections appeared to ultimately lie with Hagrid, his first and last owner.

Albus Severus Potter was the middle child of Harry and Ginevra (Ginny) Potter who first appeared in "Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2." In "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," the post-series stage play, young, dark-haired Albus began school at Hogwarts and struggled to discover himself whilst managing the expectations that come with the Potter name.

Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody replaced Remus Lupin as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in the "Goblet of Fire" film. The initial theory that he had Harry's best interests at heart proved to be false, as it was eventually revealed that Barty Crouch Jr. impersonated Moody in order to capture Harry for the Dark Lord.

Horace Slughorn was an older wizard first seen in movie six, when he was coaxed out of retirement by an eager Dumbledore. Slughorn was a pompous character with uncertain loyalties, and he seemed to take a liking to Harry but also evaded him when convenient. In the end, he chose to fight with the school against the Dark Lord.

Bellatrix Lestrange was a wicked witch introduced in the novel "The Goblet of Fire" by her cousin and Harry's godfather, Sirius Black. Lestrange was a Death Eater who escaped Azkaban prison and joined Voldemort's battle against Harry, where she ultimately killed Sirius Black. On screen, she first appeared in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," the large Acromantula spider known as Aragog was introduced. Harry encountered it on many occasions, such as when he and Ron narrowly escaped the forests when they were almost killed by Aragog's children, whom he claimed to be unable to restrain.

Dolores Umbridge was a fat, stocky witch who served as Harry's Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." She loathed Harry and often abused her power at Hogwarts and connections in the Ministry of Magic to unleash misery onto Harry and create conflict at Hogwarts.

Hedwig was Harry's pet owl that he received as a birthday present from Hagrid, in the first film of this series. Hedwig proved to be more than just a deliverer of his mail and served as Harry's companion during bouts of loneliness. She sulked at being locked up in her cage and became jealous if Harry used another owl to send mail.

Bill Weasley was the elder brother of Harry's best friend, Ron Weasley, who we first saw in a picture of Ron's family trip to Egypt, in the third movie. He was a loyal member of the Order of the Phoenix and married Fleur Delacour.

Rita Skeeter was a deceitful freelance journalist who we first met in "The Goblet of Fire," when she hounded Harry for an interview as he was a competitor in the Triwizard Tournament. Her outlandish, sensational stories gave personal, horrid and often false information about her subjects, such as Harry, who sometimes hid under the Invisibility Cloak to avoid her.

Fleur Delacour was the representative of Beauxbatons in the Triwizard Tournament, who made her first appearance in "The Goblet of Fire." She served as Harry's competitor and, eventually, the wife of Bill Weasley. In one scene, she was very grateful to Harry and Ron for saving her sister's life and rewarded them both with lavish kisses about the face.

Bartemius "Barty" Crouch Senior was the head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation who we met in the fourth movie. He was a fierce, law-abiding wizard who was placed under the Imperius Curse by Lord Voldemort, in order to do his bidding. His main weakness was his wife and his troubled son; the latter eventually killed him.

Peter Pettigrew, better known as Wormtail, was a sneaky wizard that first appeared in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." This underestimated wizard betrayed Harry's parents to Lord Voldemort, resulting in their untimely death. His loyalty to the Dark Lord wavered when he was reminded of his debt to Harry, which in turn led to his death in "Deathly Hallows."

Aberforth Dumbledore was the younger brother of Hogwarts' headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, who we first saw in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." He was played by a different actor in subsequent movies. Though he had a strained relationship with Albus, he helped Harry and friends break out of Malfoy Manor and joined in and survived the fight against Lord Voldemort and his army in the Battle of Hogwarts.

Professor Sybill Trelawney was the teacher for Divination at Hogwarts we met in the third film when Harry started her class. She was an eccentric character not taken seriously by her colleagues and students, such as Harry, Ron and Hermoine, who were unimpressed with her false predictions of Harry's "impending" death.

Lucius Malfoy was a dark wizard Harry first noticed inside a bookshop in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." Malfoy, a convicted Death Eater, supporter of the Dark Lord and an enemy to Harry, often either supported or directly facilitated attempts against Harry's life or happiness.

Cho Chang was a pretty girl from Ravenclaw who served as Harry's love interest in the fourth and fifth films. Harry first met her in the fourth film, when she proved herself to be an adept flyer.

Gilderoy Lockhart was a famous and highly acclaimed wizard who served as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." Harry and friends were no fans of his pompous nature, as Lockhart had a tendency to keep Harry near because he was famous and he hoped to generate more fame for himself by having Harry as company.

Cedric Diggory was a popular, handsome teenager and the captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. He technically first appeared in the third movie played by an unknown actor, but he was played by a different actor—and officially introduced—in the fourth. Though Cedric and Harry each hoped to win Cho Chang's affections, they were not rivals. Instead, they combined their efforts during the last task of the Triwizard Tournament, which was intercepted by Voldemort, and Cedric was killed.
