Lots of dog breeds are unique in that we can tell what they are just by looking at them. These animals, who are said to be man's best friend come in a variety of shapes, sizes and patterns. We're here to test your knowledge on that today. We want to see if you can name these dog breeds if we show you a picture of their fur. 

Now, these canines won't simply be patterned, because that would be far too easy. They'll have fur that looks like dreadlocks, some will look like wisps of clouds and some will look so normal that you may just miss the breed if you don't pay attention. This won't be the walk in the park that these animals love taking. You really need to know your canines to ace this quiz.

Dalmatians are a breed of dog that has a slim athletic build. They are easily recognized due to their distinctive fur, which follows a piebald pattern. These spots are black or brown and can even be found in the Dalmatian's mouth.

German Shepherds are known to have a predominantly black coat of fur and tan legs, necks and underbellies. Sometimes the fur may also be pure black or a combination of black and other colors, such as red, strawberry blonde, grey or blue.

Puli is a Hungarian dog with long fur that covers its entire body and eyes. Its long, corded coat does not shed and lots of care is required to keep this shaggy-headed dog well groomed. The puli's outer coat is long with a soft, thick and fluffy undercoat.

Komondor has a white, mop-like coat of fur that protects it from bouts of bad weather and lurking predators. This Hungarian dog is often used as a guard dog, trained to protect flocks of sheep. Its fluffy white fur enables it to easily blend into its environment.

Maltese are small cute dogs that have a silky white coat of hair that covers their body. Their long, thick, straight hair extends to the ground and because of this, the Maltese almost appears to be floating across the ground when it moves. However, some owners do trim the hair for easier maintenance.

The Bichon Frise has an elegant coat that is soft to the touch. Its fluffy white hair surrounds its small face and black eyes. The Bichon Frise is a happy, small playful dog that hardly measures more than a foot in height.

Chinese crested is a dog that has no fur on its body, except for its tail, feet and head. Its skin requires clothing and sunblock to protect it from harsh temperatures. The pockets of hair on its body gives it the appearance of a pony, but there is a Powderpuff variation of this dog that does have hair.

Pomeranians are a small breed of dog with a foxy face and a bubbly personality to match. They have a tuft of hair around their chest and neck, a feather-shaped tail and a double coat that comes in a variety of colors, such as red, black and orange.

Afghan hounds are elegant dogs with a thick, luxurious coat that flows to the ground. Their magnificent fur served as a great means of protection against the bitter climate that these dogs endured in early times.

This lapdog has a long straight double coat, with a soft undercoat and a coarse outer coat. The Pekingese's coat also resembles a lion's mane because it is quite long at the neck and shoulders.

This cuddly dog has a large, fluffy mane of hair all over its short body. The Chow chow is known for other distinctive features, such as its blue-black tongue and back legs that are relatively straight. Chow chows are about 17-20 inches tall.

Collie's have a coarse coat that is also quite long and bountiful, particularly around the neck, tail and hind legs. The Collie is an ideal family dog because it is very friendly and well-loved by children.

Maltipoos have a soft coat that tends to be long or medium in length and can be somewhat wavy or curly in shape. This crossbreed animal is a mixture of poodle and Maltese and tends to be loving and friendly.

Papillions are graceful dogs with plumed tails and long, delicate coats that come in many colors, such as white, brown and black. The word "Papillion" means butterfly in French and this dog is given this name due to its large ears that are shaped like the wings of a butterfly.

Australian shepherds have an impressive coat that follows a merle pattern; it has a marble appearance and may have shades of blue, black or red. It is usually medium length and must be maintained regularly due to shedding. It should also be trimmed often and brushed every week to prevent the hair from matting.

A poodle is a group of formal dog breeds that includes the Miniature Poodle, Standard Poodle and Toy Poodle. These dogs have a single layer coat made of thick, curly fur ranging from coarse and woolly to soft and wavy.

The Scottish Terrier, also known as the Aberdeen Terrier, is one of the five breeds of Terrier that originated in Scotland. Its coat consists of a hard and wiry outer coat and a soft, dense undercoat with colors ranging from dark gray, jet black and brindle, or a mix of black and brown.

The Cockapoo is a mixed-breed dog usually half English Cocker Spaniel or American Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. The Cockapoo's coat varies from dog to dog with some dogs having a sleeker coat similar to that of the Cocker Spaniel, while others may be curlier like the Poodle.

The Shih Tzu is a toy dog breed also known as the Chinese Lion Dog or the Chrysanthemum Dog. The Shih Tzu has a soft and long double coat which comes in many colors, including white, gray, gold, brown, red and white or a mix of two or three colors.

The Silky Terrier is a small and compact short-legged terrier that was developed in Australia. This breed has a long, silky and glossy coat which hangs parted along its back and comes in shades of gray and white or blue and tan.

The Pharaoh Hound is the national dog of Malta and is traditionally used for hunting rabbit in the Maltese Islands. It has a fine and short coat with a silky to somewhat coarse texture. The coat may also be glossy and varies from tan to deep chestnut.

The Otterhound is an old British dog breed which is listed by the Kennel Club as a Vulnerable Native Breed with nearly 600 animals worldwide. This scent hound has a dense, shaggy and waterproof coat which may be black and tan, liver and tan, wheaten/tan or tricolor.

The Catahoula Leopard Dog is an American dog breed which has been the state dog of Louisiana since 1979. This dog breed has a short coat which may be slick or coarse with colors ranging from red, blue, black, gray or silver, tri-color, quad-color or white with black or brown patches.

The Briard is an old breed of large, herding dogs that originated in France. It has a fine and tight undercoat and a coarse, hard and dry outer coat with a slightly wavy and glossy appearance. This breed may be tawny, black, gray, blue or a variation of these colors.

The Havanese, also known as the Havana Silk Dog, is a breed of Bichon-type dog. It is the national dog of Cuba. It has a soft, slightly wavy and silky outer coat and an undercoat which is sometimes completely absent. The coat may be cream, white, beige, fawn, red, chocolate brown, silver, gold, black or blue.

The Gordon Setter is a large breed of dog of the setter family which was originally bred to hunt game birds. The coat is long and silky, straight or slightly wavy, and is typically coal black with distinct chestnut or mahogany markings on the paws, lower legs, vents, muzzle and throat.

The Pointer, also known as the English Pointer, is a medium- to large-sized dog breed that originated in England. It has a short, thick, smooth and silky coat that is usually white (though it may be other colors) with liver, orange, lemon or black body markings.

The Portuguese Water Dog is a breed of working dogs which originated in Algarve, Portugal. The coat of the Portuguese Water Dog has a single layer that does not shed and is usually completely black, brown, black and white, silver-tipped with white chest spots, paws and legs.

The English Toy Spaniel, also called King Charles Spaniel, is a small dog breed of the spaniel type. This breed has a silky, wavy coat which may be bi-colored or tri-colored in shades of white, mahogany, black, red or tan. Some may also feature markings on their face, legs, chest and tail.

The Pug is a breed of dog known for its distinctive appearance consisting of a wrinkled, short-muzzled face and a tail that curls over the hip. It has a fine and shiny coat that comes in many colors, typically fawn or black.

The Giant Schnauzer, the largest of the three breeds of Schnauzers, is a breed of working dogs developed in Germany during the 17th century. It has a dense and coarse coat (solid black or salt and pepper) which protects it from the weather and vermin.

The Great Dane is a German breed of domestic dog known for its large stature. Its coat is short, dense and smooth and comes in a variety of colors, including fawn (yellow gold with a black mask), brindle (fawn with black chevron stripe patterns), blue, glossy black, harlequin (white with black patches), gray merle and mantle (black and white).

The Keeshond, previously known as the Dutch Barge Dog, is a medium-sized dog which originated in Holland. It has a dense, silver and black two-layer coat, with a thick ruff around its neck. The undercoat is thick and downy, while the outer coat is long, straight and coarse.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is one of the dog breeds of Welsh corgis and one of the oldest breeds of the British Isles. The Cardigan has a double coat that comes in many colors, including shades of red, brindle, sable, and black with or without tan, brindle or blue merle.

The Goldendoodle is a cross-breed between a Golden Retriever with a Poodle with a white, cream, apricot, gold, red, gray, black or light sandy brown coat.

The Lakeland Terrier is a small- to mid-size dog of the Terrier family named after the Lake District in England. It has a dense, bushy and wiry outer coat with a soft undercoat. The coat may be black, black and tan, blue and tan, grizzle, dark grizzle, grizzle and tan, red, red grizzle, liver and tan, or wheaten.

The English Foxhound is a scent hound and one of the four breeds of foxhounds. It is a cousin of the American foxhound and has a short, shiny, thick, coarse coat which is usually tricolor in shades of red, tan, or black with a white base.

The French Bulldog is a small breed of domestic dog which is a cross of bulldogs from England and local ratters in Paris, France. It has a smooth, glossy and fine coat that comes in various shades of brindle, fawn, tan or white.

The Kerry Blue Terrier is a breed of dog originally bred to control vermin such as rats, foxes, rabbits, otters and hares. It has a soft single-layer coat which varies from wavy to curly and comes in various shades of blue.

The Löwchen, also known as the Little Lion Dog, is a small breed of dog. The Löwchen has a long, dense, flowing, and wavy coat with a combination of thick and fine hair. The coat comes in many colors, including black, chocolate, red, cream, blue, black and tan, and black and silver.
