Cartoons are some of the most popular sources of entertainment and for decades, both adults and children have watched these shows and movies. Thousands of cartoons have been created and while everyone has their personal favorites, there are certainly some which are more popular than others. With that, many of the characters have gone down in the history books as some of the most creative and memorable ones to be created. 

Animated cartoons first appeared in the 19th century and were based on flip books and drawings which were looped. Almost two centuries later, the cartoon world has branched out into 3-dimensional computer animated, stop motion, motion graphics, as well as the traditional format. 

Some of the most memorable characters include Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse, Scooby Doo, Batman, Marvin the Martian, The Grinch, Popeye, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Jessica Rabbit, Winnie-the-Pooh, Yogi Bear and the Peanuts characters.
