About This Quiz

What's your Myers-Briggs type? Are you a bossy ESFJ, a sassy ESFP or a shy, calculating INTJ?

In case you're not familiar with it, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI, is a personality-typing system based on Jung's theories. It divides people by the way they interact with the world. Each letter in your Myers-Briggs type stands for a different quality: Introverted or Extroverted, Sensing or Intuiting, Feeling or Thinking and Judging or Perceiving.

Some people incorrectly think that you can calculate your score by deciding whether you are an introvert or extrovert, perceiver or judger, etc., but actually, the Myers-Briggs letters represent paired cognitive traits, which the MBTI defines as functions.

Ne, for instance, stands for Extroverted Intuition, while Fi stands for Introverted Feeling. When you plan an event, you use Ne to imagine how each step of the night might go. On the other hand, when you're working through an ethical dilemma, you're probably using Fi.

Everyone uses all of the functions in their everyday lives, but the functions you use the most form the core of your Myers-Briggs type. Interestingly enough, each Myers-Briggs type also corresponds to a mythological archetype. Jung loved discussing archetypes in his work, as he felt they represented eternal drives in human nature.

If you'd like to find out which Myers-Briggs type you are AND which mythological animal symbolizes that type, we invite you to take this quiz!

Rich

Do you like working with other people, or do you wish you were independently wealthy and never had to collaborate with anyone ever again?
It annoys me to work with others when I'm not the boss. If I were independently wealthy, I'd start my own company and fire anyone who didn't adhere to my preferred work culture.
I like collaborating with others, at work and socially!
I would love to be rich enough to never have to work again. I'd wrap myself in a cashmere blanket and pet a lot of cats.
Independence is important to me. If I were independently wealthy, I'd probably try to invent something amazing on my own and then sell it to the highest bidder.

If your best friend painted her living room a terrible color, what would you say?
I'd say, "This color isn't working. Can I help you repaint? Let's go to the store right now!"
I'd tell her it was "different, but really fun."
I wouldn't comment on the color unless directly asked, and then I'd say, "Well, it wouldn't be my first choice, but we each must find our own path."
I'd say, "Why did you paint your living room this color?"

Handsome DJ

You're at a wedding. The DJ never showed up but the sound system is all set up. What do you do?
I'd call the three or four talented DJs that I just happen to know and demand that they come to the wedding immediately.
I'd quickly put together a band and offer to perform all the bride's favorite songs. I'd be the lead singer, of course.
I'd quietly empathize with the bride and groom, but wouldn't try to solve the problem.
I'd deduce where the DJ was and blackmail him into showing up.

Your most dramatic friend calls you, begging that you meet up with him so he can tell you all about his latest relationship debacle. You're working on a project that could change the course of your career. What do you say?
"I told you that person would be trouble. Why don't you ever listen to me?"
"Where are you? We have to talk about this! I'm clearing my schedule!"
"I can meet you for an hour... Okay fine, two hours."
"No."

Friends

After the apocalypse hits, you join a small band of wanderers who are struggling to survive in a world without rules. What role do you play in the group?
I lead them. With my guidance, we'll build a real community, with clean water, fresh food and unbreakable laws.
I'm the class clown. When people's spirits get down, I lift them back up with jokes and impromptu celebrations.
I don't have much to offer the group, but I try to be a peacemaker. We have enough danger to contend with; we can't fight amongst ourselves.
I'd help with long-term planning, coming up with ideas about how to safeguard our settlement, improve our primitive technology and reach out to others in this barren, phone-less world.

You have to write an essay. What's your writing process?
I come up with an outline, then write a first draft. I edit that, write a second draft, and voila! It's done.
I chat with various people about it until I hit on an idea. I wait until the night before the essay's due and then I stay up until 4 a.m. writing it.
I write down various ideas and phrases on pieces on paper. Then I sit on the floor and rearrange them until I start to see what the shape of the essay will be.
I take a shower. I have an idea. I write an outline and try to flesh out the idea in it. It doesn't work. I go for a jog and then I write the essay in half an hour. I spend three days editing it to make sure it's actually good.

I tell her that stuff happens and ask if she wants to go shopping later.
I empathize with her and ask if there were any sensitive materials on the laptop.
