About This Quiz
In George R.R. Martin's world, there are several bloodlines that cross over, meet, then separate through generations of high-born lineage. The noble families of Westeros have vast family trees that span thousands of years. Some of those family trees don't really fork a lot, and others connect to various families within the realm. While you may know the characters you've seen on the show (and maybe a few more here and there that you've seen in fan theory videos), there are so many names and surnames that pepper the world of "A Song of Ice and Fire" and "Game of Thrones" that it could be a little difficult to name each and every one of them.
If you think you know how the characters in "Game of Thrones" are related, you may find this quiz a little less challenging than most. However, we will warn you that some of these questions are difficult and may require a little bit of research. Fair warning: There are spoilers in this quiz, so if you aren't up to date on the drama that is Westerosi bloodlines, you may accidentally learn things that you are not currently privy to. Take this quiz at your own risk, but go forth, and seek the true answers to the question "Who's related to whom?" in this epic "Game of Thrones" family tree quiz.
We all love to hate Joffrey Baratheon, and we all learn in the first season that Joffrey isn't even a Baratheon. Though he has said title, he is actually the bastard child of Jamie and Cersei Lannister.
Everyone wanted to see Jon Snow and Daenerys come together and make sweet love. However, by the time they did, we finally learned the truth about Jon's parents, and in learning that truth, we learned that Dany was Jon's aunt.
The logic Cersei Lannister gives for bedding her twin brother is the fact that they shared everything together, including the womb, so why not the bed? Plus, Targaryens do it all the time, so no biggie, right?

The Hound is an interesting character throughout the series. First, we hate him for killing the butcher's boy, then we love him for saying "F* the king." But we love him the most for protecting Arya while she needs it.
Brandon Stark wanted nothing more to be a knight. However, a fall out the window made it so he could no longer use his legs. He then honed in on his seeing skills, and ended up on the Iron Throne.
Khal Drogo did get Daenerys Targaryen pregnant, but the baby didn't live through child birth. He was supposed to be the Stallion Who Mounts the World, but that actually ended up being Daenerys in the end.

It isn't brought up much (mostly because there aren't a lot of grandparents in "Game of Thrones"), but Tywin Lannister is technically Tommen's grandfather on both sides, which makes him a double grandpa.
Ramsay Bolton was a bit of a psychopath throughout the show, and if you've read the books, you know that his father (Roose Bolton) wasn't much different. Roose is the one who betrayed Robb Stark at the Red Wedding.
Lady Walda was Walder Frey's daughter (one of many). Walder Frey offered Bolton his wife's weight in silver to marry her, so Bolton chose the heaviest child, and thus he became a pretty rich man.

Ilyn Payne is the King's Justice in the beginning of the show (the guy with his tongue cut out), but then he just disappears. Podrick is a distant cousin of his, and is sent to King's Landing to squire for Tyrion Lannister.
We never get to meet Elia Martell, but she is the reason Oberyn gets his face smashed. Oberyn wants to avenge her death, and killing the Mountain is the way he is going to get that revenge. Of course, he almost does it, but has to get the Mountain to admit to his crimes, which leads to his demise.
Ned Stark had one brother and one sister. His sister was Lyanna and his brother was Brandon. While we don't get to meet them in the show (they're already dead), we do get to see flashbacks of these two essential characters.

Catelyn Stark does make a few big mistakes in the first season of the show. As a matter of fact, anyone who listened to Petyr Baelish (ever) was making a big mistake. That dude really liked watching the world burn.
When we first meet Lysa Arryn, we start to recognize that she's a bit off her rocker. It is explained just a little bit better in the books, but she has her reasons for being a little paranoid.
Many don't know who actually got married at the Red Wedding. The Red Wedding was actually the union of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey. Robb offered up his uncle to the Freys to ensure peace after he went back on his word.

In the books, Hodor's real name is Walder. However, in the show, Hodor's real name is Willys. In the episode "Hold the Door," we learn how Hodor became Hodor and what really happened. And then we all cried.
Samwell Tarly's father sent him to the wall for not being man enough to kill animals. He basically told Sam that if he didn't go to the wall, he'd be killed in a hunting "accident" the next time they went out. Great father figure, for sure.
In a fascinating turn of events, we learn that Ned Stark is not the father of Jon Snow. As a matter of fact, his sister Lyanna is Jon's mother. Lyanna ran away with Rhaegar Targaryen (starting a war) and married him then had his baby.

We all hated Theon in the beginning of the series. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until Ramsay Snow (Bolton) started torturing him that we realized he paid his dues and he's OK to be a good guy now.
Kevan Lannister is Tywin Lannister's brother, making him Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion's uncle. He was the last one to hold any common sense in King's Landing, before Cersei had him killed (of course).
We don't hear much about Howland Reed in the show, but his name is brought up time and again in the books. They say his castle moves, and he is impossible to find. This is probably why showrunners didn't think to include him in the series.

Oberyn and Doran don't get along very well, but they are still brothers. When their sister Elia was murdered, Oberyn wanted justice, whereas Doran wanted to stay out of the fighting altogether.
Elia Martell was married to Rhaegar Targaryen before he ran off with Lyanna Stark. They had two children, who are thought to be dead (murdered with their mother). Rhaegar didn't think to tell people who he loved in order to stop a war, which was poor planning on his part.
Jeor Mormont (better known as Lord Commander Mormont) led the Night's Watch through some pretty bad stuff. It takes a second to realize that he is the father of the guy who is helping Dany get across the sea and take over the Seven Kingdoms.

After Robert Baratheon dies, Stannis technically has the best claim to the Iron Throne. However, what he does to make that claim gets him killed and makes him a pretty unlikable character.
Lady Olenna (also known as the Queen of Thorns) is Margaery and Loras Tyrell's grandmother. She is one firecracker of a lady, and she makes no excuses for the way things are in her life. We thank her for taking care of Joffrey for us.
We never meet Selwyn Tarth. He is a lesser lord who doesn't make his way into the story very much ... except to explain who Brienne is. We know that he is invited to some of the larger events, which is how Brienne danced with Renly.

Ser Davos had two sons. They both fought for Stannis. We all know and love Davos as the man who stood next to multiple kings to help them keep their feet on the ground. However, he never seems to persuade them.
Lyanna Mormont takes on the role of head of her house at a very early age. She has a lot to live up to, as her mother was a great warrior and fought for Robb Stark. That's what makes her so tough and what makes everyone love her.
Gendry is a Baratheon whereas Arya is a Stark. They are both of noble houses; however, Gendry isn't legitimized until the final season of the show. While they could be 180th cousins up the noble name line, they technically aren't related at all.

Robb Stark was the great hero of the second season of the "Game of Thrones" show. His shocking death reminded us that every single character on this show was in danger of dying at all times.
When it comes to Targaryens, Maester Aemon was very low on the line of succession, so he took the black to make something of himself. Eventually, his number was called, and he decided not to even try to become king.
When your name almost sounds like "dragon," you might just need to marry a dragon queen. Of course, this courtship didn't last long, as the Khal was killed because Dany was kind to a witch.

Rickon Stark is Ned and Catelyn Stark's youngest child. Jon Snow is Lynna Stark's and Rhaegar Targaryen's legitimate child. This makes Rickon and Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen) cousins.
Trystane Martell is the son of Prince Doran Martell. His betrothed is Myrcella Baratheon (thanks, Tyrion). He doesn't get a whole lot of screen time on the show, but the screen time that he does get shows him as a caring soul.
Lysa Arryn is a special kind of crazy. She is the one who sent the letter that convinced Ned Stark to go to King's Landing, and she is the one who killed her own husband. All of this led to starting a war.

Whether you consider Robert Baratheon or Jaime Lannister to be Tommen's father, Tyrion is still his uncle. Tommen is a gentle-hearted boy who loves cats. He's pretty much the opposite of the rest of his family.
When it comes to characters we love to love, Tyrion has been a fan favorite since the beginning of the show. He helps Jon Snow and keeps his feet on the ground as much as possible. And he drinks and knows things.
Aerys Targaryen was known as the Mad King. He wanted to burn the entire city down right before he died. However, Daenerys goes ahead and does that to ensure that all of her enemies are dead (but only after Cersei blows up the Sept of Baelor).

Robert Baratheon was originally betrothed to Lyanna Stark. After her death, he was obsessed with her, and Cersei was just a marriage that had to be done for the sake of the realm, making Cersei a pretty angry woman.
