The Marines isn't just any branch of the military; it is the elite fighting force of the United States. When you meet someone who is a Marine, or who is a Marine veteran, you immediately know that you are in the presence of someone who doesn't mess around. 

Being a member of the Marines is no joke. Even being a private in the Marine corps, which is the lowest ranked level, you are someone who is a force to be reckoned with, but rising up the ranks is even tougher. It takes a lot of discipline and a lot of patience to become an officer.

Now if you're not cut out to be an officer or even a private in the Marines, that isn't an insult. A lot of people just don't have that sort of personality. Some of us like to relax and chill out, and would rather have someone else do all the hard work.
