Both sirens and mermaids are beautiful mythical female creatures that reside in and around the sea, in the ocean and near islands, but the similarities pretty much end there. A mermaid is a half woman and half fish, while a siren is a half woman and half bird. Both are known to be quite alluring to sailors and the like, but they have very different intentions when it came to the men they met on the sea. 

Mermaids are stunningly beautiful, but also very humble and kind. The only real problem they pose to sailors is that they would fall in love with them and not be able to stop thinking of them. Sirens are just a little bit different. They are also pretty gorgeous but would use their charm and their song to beguile hapless sailors into coming closer to dangerous areas in their boats, leading them to crash on the rocks and drown.
