The show followed Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, her mentor Giles, and her friends Xander, Willow and Cordelia as they battle vampires, demons and other assorted monsters. It seems that Buffy was the "chosen one" and her destiny is to keep mankind safe from evil. While initially she is totally bummed about this, as she would way rather go shopping at the mall and all that, soon she embraces her destiny.
