Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God, breathed through man and recorded for our daily use.
It can be used to teach, instruct, rebuke and even console. The Bible consists of 66 books and is broken down into 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament.
This holy scripture contains 31,102 verses, the bulk of which (23,145) are found in the Old Testament, leaving 7,957 in the New Testament. The longest book in the Bible is Psalms. And it is easy to see why! There are 150 of them. The shortest book in the Bible is 2 John. It comprises just 13 verses and is only around 298 words long, depending on the Bible type used, of course.
So all in all, the Bible contains a lot of history, stories, parables, sermons and many other parts of God's word given to man over the centuries.

In Genesis 4, we have the story of Cain murdering his brother Abel because God seems to favor his sacrifice more. The story of Noah and the great flood appears a chapter later, in Genesis 5.
After speaking to a crowd of around 5,000, Jesus asked for his disciples to collect food to feed them. They only found five loaves and two fish. Jesus then performed a miracle, feeding the crowd and with 12 baskets of food still collected afterward.
The oldest person mentioned in the Bible is Methuselah, a figure in both Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Genesis 5 verse 27 has his age as 969. "Thus all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty-nine years, and he died."

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah tells how God destroyed two towns filled with evil men. Lot and his wife were in one of the towns but were told to leave by two angels of the Lord. They were also told to not look back at the destruction, a warning Lot's wife does not heed, turning her into a pillar of salt.
Genesis 2:8 tells us that God decided to make Adam a companion. To do this, he put Adam into a deep sleep and formed Eve from one of Adam's ribs.
John is the fourth book of the New Testament in the Bible. It is also one of the four Gospels along with Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Who wrote the book is up for debate, but most Christian scholars do attribute it to John, one of the disciples of Jesus.

One of the most famous Bible verses is found in John 3:16. In it, the author explains exactly how much God loves his creation, so much so that he offers his own Son to take away the sin of man.
Joseph was given his coat of many colors by his father Jacob. This led his brothers to believe he was their fathers favorite. They threw him in a well but then sold him into slavery, telling his father that he had been savaged by a wild animal.
Goliath was a champion of the Philistine army. He was said to stand "four cubits and a span," which is around 6 feet 9 inches or 2.06 meters. In those days, he certainly was a very tall man, or a giant if you will.

After God sealed the ark from the outside, it rained for 40 days and nights. Eventually, the rain stopped, and the waters subsided, although scholars believe that Noah and his family were on the ark for around a year. Genesis 8:4 tells us that it came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
Jesus knew that Judas was the one who would betray him and told his disciples that one of them would while they all sat together at the last supper. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Judas who had left the group brought authorities and pointed out Jesus by kissing him on the cheek.
After the last supper, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. The garden itself is found near Mount Olive in Jerusalem. Here, Judas identified Jesus to authorities, and he was arrested.

Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus. Remember, Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit in Mary. Joseph was entrusted with bringing up the Messiah from a baby to manhood.
This verse is found in the Old Testament, Exodus 20:2 to be exact. It tells of how God saved his people from the Egyptians who had enslaved them.
Pontius Pilate, although he could not see any wrongdoing from Jesus, ordered his crucifixion at the insistence of Jewish leaders in Jerusalem. Pilate's official position at the time was Prefect of Judea.

The book of Genesis sets out the creation order of the universe and all in it quite clearly. On day six of the creation, God created man (Adam) and all the animals and creatures of Earth. Genesis 1:26 reads: “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Although Jesus was brought up in Nazareth, the town where his parents Joseph and Mary lived, he was born in Bethlehem. Why? Well, near the time of his birth, Joseph, who was born in Bethlehem, had to return to the city for a census. Jesus was born on their arrival in the city.
Paul was known as Saul of Tarsus before a meeting with Jesus on the road to Damascus changed his life forever. Saul was a Pharisee (a Jewish leader) who openly persecuted the new Christian church.

Psalm 23 is perhaps one of the most well-known and famous passages in the Bible, known by Christians and non-Christians alike. This Psalm was written by David before he was King. At the time, King Saul, who was jealous of David, was hunting him to kill him.
Exodus 20 contains the 10 Commandments God gave to Moses, which formed the law for the Israelites. The first one is laid out in verse 3 and is seen as the most important. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
John the Baptist is mentioned in many religious texts including the Bible. Jesus' mother, Mary, and John's mother, Elizabeth, were related, with the Bible indicating the word "cousins" although, at that time, the word was used to refer to a relative and didn't necessarily mean cousin as we know it. John was later beheaded under the instruction of King Herod.

The story of Noah is told in the book of Genesis. God tells Noah to build an Ark and collect two of each animal type to put on it, along with his family. God intends to destroy the world by flood, and the Ark will protect Noah, his family, and the animals.
Yes, Jesus wept. John 11:35 is, in fact, the shortest verse in the Bible. But why was Jesus weeping? Well, it was for his friend Lazarus, who had died four days earlier. Jesus brings Lazarus back to life, showing that he has the ability to perform miracles and that he is the son of God.
Psalms, found in the Old Testament, is the longest book in the Bible. It contains 150 different Psalms. Many of them, like Psalm 23, "The Lord is My Shepherd," was written by David.

Malachi is the last book in the Old Testament in the Bible. Who wrote it, well, no one is sure. Some scholars believe Malachi to be the author, while others think that Malachi is a reference to "messenger of Yahweh." It is thought to have been written between 500 and 400 BC.
Jacob is often described as the father of the Israelites. His 12 sons, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin become the tribes of Israel. Benjamin was his youngest son.
The third book of both the Old Testament and the Torah, Leviticus, relates the story of the Israelites and how they are to put in practice the Ten Commandments given to them by God as well as how to make offerings at the Tabernacle. It is filled with rituals the Israelites had to perform for God to forgive their sins.

David was the youngest son of Jesse. He was tasked with keeping the family flocks. David's brothers were sent to battle the Philistines along with other Israelite men. When David visited their champ, he saw the giant Goliath and defeated him with a single stone from his sling.
The Bible never mentions that Adam and Eve ate an apple from the Tree of Knowledge. It is just said to be a fruit. The first time an apple is mentioned in the Bible is in Proverbs 25:11.
Jesus was denied by one of his disciples on three occasions after his capture. It was not John, however, but Peter, just as Jesus had told him he would.

Paul is one of the great apostles. From persecuting the Jews, he transformed into a follower of Jesus after encountering God on the road to Damascus. This passage is taken from Romans 1:1.
Although he was born in Bethlehem, it was because Joseph had traveled there with Mary to partake in the census. Joseph and Mary actually lived in Nazareth, and the Son of God was often called Jesus of Nazareth.
There are 39 books in the Old Testament. It is thought that it was written by around 25 authors including Moses, David, Solomon, Samuel, and Ezra, among others. The first five books of the Bible, written by Moses, were completed in around 1,300 BC.

The daughter of Jethro and the wife of Moses, Zipporah is mentioned in the Bible in the book of Exodus. Moses met her at a well in Midian where she was watering her father's flock.
