The sixth chapter in the book of Genesis states: "Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch." Modern scholars believe that gopher wood is now called cypress wood.

The tenth chapter in the book of Genesis states: "Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah -- Shem, Ham, and Japheth..." Semites are the descendants of Shem.
