A country is a region or space that is identified as a national entity with its own unique political system. It may be an independent sovereign state or a part of a state as a non-sovereign entity. There are approximately 195 countries in the world, some of which have their own languages and cultures.

We have all seen the map of the world and the vastness of some countries in relation to other countries at least a dozen times, but when we see them, it is usually accompanied by their name, their capitals, and their large cities, as well as the countries which border them. 

Every country has a distinctive shape with peaks and inlets as well as islands off the coast. Some of the countries which people can easily identify include the United States, Italy, Mexico, Greenland, Cuba, Australia, Japan, Greece and Russia.

Turkey, which is officially referred to as the Republic of Turkey, is a transcontinental country which is mostly located in West Asia, with a small section in Southeast Europe. It is bordered by 8 countries and 3 seas including the Mediterranean, the Black and the Aegean.

Argentina, or the Argentine Republic, is a country located in South America and is the 8th largest in the world. The capital of this Spanish-speaking country is Buenos Aires which has an estimated population of 14 million.

Kenya, sometimes called the Republic of Kenya, is an African country which lies on the equator and the East African Rift. This geographically diverse country is also the location of cities including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumi, Nakuri, Eldoret and Malindi.

Ireland is an island located in the Northern Atlantic Ocean and is the third largest island in Europe. It is home to 6.3 million people and is the birthplace of Guinness, Leprechauns and the popularly celebrated St. Patrick’s Day.

Russia, officially called the Russian Federation, is a country which is located in Eurasia and is the largest country in the world, covering just over 1/8 of the Earth’s surface. As of 2018, the population is 144.5 million, making it the 9th most populated on the planet.

Denmark is a Nordic country, which along with the Faroe Islands and Greenland comprise The Kingdom of Denmark. Its capital, Copenhagen, is the most populated city and is the location of Nyhavn, Tivoli Gardens and Frederik’s Church.

Thailand, formerly known as Siam, is a country located in Southeast Asia and is comprised of 76 provinces. It is the home of the Phi Phi Islands, the Grand Palace, the Floating Market and the Kanchanaburi province.

Austria, officially called the Republic of Austria, is a country located in Central Europe which is bordered by 8 countries, including Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy. The country is one of the richest in the world, and it has a very high standard of living.

Croatia is located at the crossroads of Southeast and Central Europe on the Adriatic Sea. One of its cities, Dubrovnik, which is a popular tourist destination, is one of the filming locations for the television series "Game of Thrones."

India, also known as the Republic of India, is located in South Asia and is the 2nd most populated country in the world with an estimated population of 1.2 billion. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, China, Nepal and a few other countries.

Mexico, officially called the United Mexican States, is a country located at the southwestern end of North America. It has a population of 120 million people and is home to sites like the Tulum Ruins, Chichen Itza and Xcaret Park.

Belgium, which is located in Western Europe is bordered by France, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands and the North Sea. Its capital city Brussels, is the location of the Grand Place, Manneken Pis, Mini-Europe and the Atomium.

South Africa, whose official name is the Republic of South Africa, is the largest country in the Southern African region. The country, which has a population of 57 million, has a variety of cultures, religions and languages – 11 of which are official.

Ukraine is an Eastern European country with an estimated population of 42.5 million people. The country, whose capital city is Kiev and the official language is Ukrainian, was the site of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.

Germany, whose official title is the Federal Republic of Germany, is a European country which lies between the Baltic and North Seas. It has a population of 83 million, making it the 2nd most populated European State.

Hungary is a Central European country which is bordered by Slovakia, Ukraine, Austria, Romania and a host of other countries. The country has approximately 10 million people, and its capital city is Budapest.

Brazil, officially called the Federative Republic of Brazil, is the largest country in South America and the fifth largest in the world by area. Although its capital is Brasília, its most populated city is São Paulo, with 12 million.

Greece, historically known as Hellas, is a country located in Southern Europe with an estimated population of 11 million people. Some of its most popular cities include Santorini, Athens, Mykonos, Thessaloniki and Crete.

Jamaica is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea and is the fourth largest country in the Caribbean. It has a population of 2.9 million people, and its capital city is Kingston. The country is best known for the athlete Usain Bolt and the singer Bob Marley.

Switzerland, officially known as the Swiss Confederation, is a European country which is bordered by Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein. It is the location of two of the world’s economic centers – Geneva and Zürich.

Japan, sometimes referred to as “Land of the Rising Sun,” is an island country consisting of over 6000 islands located in East Asia in the Pacific Ocean. Its population is 127 million, making it the 10th largest in the world. 13. 8 million of which live in Tokyo.

England is a country which belongs to the United Kingdom which is bordered by Scotland and Wales. It is the location of Stonehenge, the Tower of England, Big Ben, the River Thames and Buckingham Palace – the home of the royal family.

Poland, or the Republic of Poland, is a country located in Central Europe with its capital and the largest city being Warsaw. It is the location of Old Town, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, the Main Market Square and Muzeum.

Morocco, sometimes called the Kingdom of Morocco, is a country which is located in North Africa. Its capital city is Rabat, and it is the location of the Mausoleum of Mohammad V, Hassan Tower, and Chellah.

Italy, also called the Italian Republic, is acountry in Europe in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The boot-shaped country is home to cities including Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan, Naples and Genoa and monuments like the Colosseum and St. Mark’s Basilica.

The Netherlands is a country located in Northwestern Europe with three island territories in the Caribbean, making up the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, and its Port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe.

China, whose official name is the People’s Republic of China, is a country located in East Asia and is the most populated country in the world. The country is governed by the Communist Party of China and is composed of 22 provinces.

Spain, or the Kingdom of Spain, is a country which can be found on the Iberian Peninsula along with its territories the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands. It is the 6th largest country in Europe by population, and its cities include Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and Seville.

Egypt, officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a Mediterranean country which is bordered by Libya, Sudan, Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea. Monuments like the Great Sphinx, the Temple of Debod and the Luxor Obelisk can be found here.

Vietnam, whose official name is the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam is an Eastern Asian country which has an estimated population of 94.6 million. It is bordered by Laos, China, Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines.

The United States of America is a country which is composed of 50 states and is the third largest country in the world by area. The capital city is Washington D.C., the location of the White House, the Lincoln Memorial and the United States Capitol building.

The Czech Republic is a country located in Central Europe and is bordered by Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia. Its capital city of Prague is also the largest by area, and it has an approximate population of 1.3 million people.

France has long been a world capital of culture and cuisine. Its capital, Paris, is the home of the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre and much more.

Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia which consists of 13 states and three federal territories. It has a population of over 30 million people, and its capital of Kuala Lumpur is its largest city and the seat of the federal government.

Canada is a country located north of the United States of America and is the 2nd largest country in the world by area. Its list of cities includes Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg and its list of celebrities include Celine Dion, Justin Bieber and Ryan Reynolds.

Guyana, often called the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, is a South American country which is bordered by Brazil, Surinam and Venezuela but is considered to be one of the Caribbean countries.

Indonesia, also referred to as the Republic of Indonesia, is a sovereign state located in Southeast Asia between the Pacific and the Indian Ocean. It has an estimated population of 261 million and is the largest island in the world.

Portugal, officially known as the Portuguese Republic, is a European country which has been called one of the oldest countries in Europe. It is the location of cities including Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Sintra and Coimbra.

Australia, or the Commonwealth of Australia, is a sovereign country as well as a continent which is composed of Australia, Tasmania and a few smaller islands. The country, which is known for having more kangaroos than people has a capital named Canberra.

Jordan, officially known as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is an Arab country which is located in Western Asia. The capital of Amman is its most populated city, and it is also the cultural, political and economic hub.
