About This Quiz

Morality is something that broadly speaking, is similar across many cultures. It's not identical, of course, and cultures change with time. For example, it is now rightly considered extremely evil to own a slave. In 1750, this was considered pretty normal behavior, something that even the church of the time endorsed. There are lots of morally wrong things that have become taboo in this manner, but were once considered to be ordinary behavior, such as the idea that a man was the owner of his wife, who should not have any legal person-hood of her own. It was also once considered OK to invade a country and then keep its territory, just because you wanted whatever stuff it had; this is now illegal (though sadly, it does still happen).

These things are completely black and white. If you don't think women are people or that slavery is wrong, these days, you're going to get a lot of stick for it, and so you should. However, some moral issues are much more complicated, and time has not resolved them. Is it wrong to dine at a restaurant when you don't know whether they pay the waitstaff a living wage? Is it wrong to burn fossil fuels by driving a car? Is it wrong to stay friends with a person you know mistreats their dog? Happily, some of these issues are much smaller. For example, is it wrong to steal pencils from the office? What about wearing white after Labor Day? Are you a terrible person if you text during the movie? (The answer to the last one is a hard yes, by the way.) Let's find out how you feel about these and other issues, and see what that tells us about you!
