After trading Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees following the 1919 season, the Boston Red Sox went 86 years without winning a World Series. The team's failure in the World Series became known as "The Curse of the Bambino."
The New York Yankees can proudly call themselves the champion of champions because they have won more World Series than any other team in the Majors. Their latest title was in 2009, but the team has put together some competitive rosters since then.
The Chicago Cubs won back to back World Series in 1907 and 1908, but that was back when pitchers were still allowed to spit on the ball. It took the team 108 years to win another championship, which marked the longest drought in MLB at the time.

New York has always been a Yankees' town, but there was a short time in the 1980s when the Yankees couldn't win while the Mets were setting the baseball world on fire. The Mets were only able to win one title during the decade, but their fans were happy to see it.
The Dodgers won their first World Series in 1955 while playing in Brooklyn. This 1955 championship team featured the legendary Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in MLB.
The Houston Astros secured the only championship in franchise history during the 2017 season. That year, they faced off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a series that went all seven games. The Astros won the final game 5-1.

The St. Louis Cardinals currently have 11 World Series championships under their belt. Those 11 titles are the most for any team playing in the National League and the second most overall.
The Braves' franchise has won three World Series in the team's history, but all three were won in different cities. The Braves won their first title while playing in Boston, the second in Milwaukee and the most recent championship in Atlanta.
One of the most memorable World Series for the San Francisco Giants was one that they lost in 1989. The series became known for the earthquake that destroyed part of Candlestick Park, forcing a 10-day game delay.

The early '80s started off poorly for the Minnesota Twins, who lost 102 games in the 1982 season. That all changed when they brought in manager Tom Kelly, who led the team to two World Series titles in 1987 and 1991.
Established in 1991, the Colorado Rockies are a relatively new franchise when you think about some of the oldest teams that date back to the 19th century. The Rockies did make one World Series in 2007, but they couldn't win a single game in the series.
It has been over a decade since the San Diego Padres reached the playoffs, with their last appearance coming in 2006. They currently have a star in Manny Machado, who they hope will get them back into championship contention.

The Seattle Mariners have only ever been to the playoffs four times in the history of the ball club, and they've never advanced to a World Series. The first time they made the playoffs was in 1995 when they won the AL West Division.
The Cincinnati Reds' roster in the 1970s featured all time greats like Johnny Bench, Pete Rose and Joe Morgan. These stars led the Reds to victories in five NL Pennants and two World Series.
The Toronto Blue Jays put together some competitive teams in the late '80s and early '90s that were able to win five AL East Division titles. Ultimately, they made it to back to back World Series in 1992 and 1993, winning both of them.

Roberto Clemente was one of the greatest players in Pirates history, helping his beloved team win two World series during his career. Those championships came on opposite ends of his career, one in 1960 and the other in 1971.
The Athletics have been crowned champions on nine different occasions, but only four of those titles have come since they relocated to Oakland. The first five titles were won in Philadelphia.
Rick Dempsey was the star of the Baltimore Orioles' 1983 World Series title. After recording five hits in the series which included a home run in the final game, Dempsey was named the World Series MVP.

Founded in 1894, the Detroit Tigers are the oldest team in the American League to not change names or cities throughout their history. Detroit has been pleased with their Tigers, who have won four World Series and 11 AL Pennants.
The Kansas City Royals reached the World Series in both 2014 and 2015 for the first time since 1985. They lost the 2014 World Series in seven games but dominated the 2015 World Series, defeating the New York Mets in five games.
Added as an expansion team in 1998, the Arizona Diamondbacks were only in their fourth season when they reached the 2001 World Series. They faced a tough Yankees team that took them seven games, but in the end, the Diamondbacks walked away with the title.

Larry Doby, Bob Feller and Joe Gordon were on the Cleveland Indians the last time they won a World Series, if that tells you anything. The Indians have made several appearances since then, but they always come up short.
The Milwaukee Brewers started as the Seattle Pilots when they were added as an expansion team in 1969. However, the team went bankrupt in the first year and were moved to Milwaukee after a new owner purchased the franchise.
Beginning in 2009, the Washington Nationals added two stars in back to back years when they drafted Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper. The pair helped the Nationals reach the playoffs four times, but they never advanced to the World Series.

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated their rival Boston Red Sox in the 2008 ALCS to advance to their only World Series. They weren't as successful in the World Series, going out in just five games.
Between 1919 and 2005, when they finally won another championship, the Chicago White Sox only competed in one other World Series, which was in 1959. However, the team lost that series in six games.
The Los Angeles Angels have only ever competed in the 2002 World Series, which they reached after making it into the playoffs as a wild card team. They faced the San Francisco Giants, who strangely also made it to the World Series after a wild card berth.

The Miami Marlins won their first World Series in 1997 behind the stellar arm of Livan Hernandez, who was named the series MVP. Hernandez pitched Game 1 and Game 5 of the series, both of which were wins.
The Texas Rangers have been quite good since 2010, winning four AL West Division titles and appearing in two World Series. Their recent success gives Rangers fans something to hope for, but it hasn't given them a championship.
The Philadelphia Phillies have one of the most recognizable mascots in baseball, the Phillie Phanatic. Large and green, it's hard to determine exactly what Phillie Phanatic is other than a flightless bird, but that doesn't stop the mascot from getting fans riled up for games.
