About This Quiz

The engine is one of the most important inventions in the history of humanity. Engines made the industrial revolution possible, advancing science by reducing the need for manual labor through engine-driven labor-saving technology. They freed millions from slavery because keeping engines working was simply cheaper than slavery. Engines propelled humankind to the moon, transport goods from one corner of the globe to another, and entertain millions who adore motorsports from Formula 1 to NASCAR and everywhere in between.

Engines are as diverse as the people who made and used them. Some engines were designed for efficiency, but can be tuned for performance. Others were designed to save space, to save weight, or to have a specific torque curve, or sound, or horsepower figure. There are old engine designs still in use today and new engine designs that draw their inspiration from long abandoned engines from more than a century ago.

Some engines work in construction, others in logging, others in transportation. Some of them run on diesel, some on gas, some even run on what is called "mix," which is the grog found in pipelines where a batch of gasoline mixes with a bit of diesel and bit of lubricant. Either way, each engine has a personality. Which one is a match for you?
