Back in the day, if you want to get something done, you relied on a workforce, or possibly horsepower. If a house needed building or a road had to be traveled, you used your own hands and feet to get the job done. If you wanted a meal cooked, you made a fire. If you wanted to read after the sun went down, you better have candles handy. And then we mastered electricity, and everything changed.

The ability to harness power, to direct it and control it towards an end, is one of the things that drastically separates humans from the other creatures on Earth. We can use the forces of nature around us to accomplish goals. We have solar powered flashlights and battery powered cars! We're a pretty crafty species overall, and we're not slowing down anytime soon. What we are doing is continually coming up with better, more efficient ways to do all those things.

With all the kinds of power at our disposal, some are definitely more suited to certain places and tasks than others. Power is kind of like people in that way.
