The word "occult" comes from a Latin word that means "secret" or "hidden." It's an appropriate term since much of what we consider occult is mysterious and hidden. The dark powers of the supernatural and mystical, the paranormal, the science and the philosophy of things that seem to be beyond the understanding of normal people — all that falls under the blanket of the occult. Some of it nice, some of it not so nice. In so many words, it's the opposite of science, which deals in facts and what can be observed and proven.
