When "Star Trek" premiered back in September of 1966, no one on Earth or anywhere else in the galaxy could have predicted what a cultural milestone it would eventually become. The original series seemed to not make an impact at all, being quickly canceled and almost forgotten, but then something about Gene Roddenberry's vision and the diverse and engaging cast started to click with people.
