If you take a leisurely stroll through history, you'll discover early references to druids starting about 2,400 years ago. And the thing is these references are just that; references. They talk about druids, but they're not by druids. The druids themselves weren't much for writing books that managed to stand the test of time so we don't really know exactly what they thought and believed, just what's been filtered through the ages by others who experienced them. Based on what we can say for sure about druids, we know that they were mysterious and important figures through the cultures of Europe, especially in the Celtic regions. They were respected in their communities and they held power. They were known to be wise and believed to have mystical abilities beyond those of average people. There's something both sad and yet appropriate about how little we know about them today then, as their mystique has kept them shrouded after all this time.
