About This Quiz

The Gaelic language seemed to have its heyday between the 13th and 16th centuries in Scotland and Ireland. These days, it's still spoken by people in those countries as well in some parts of Canada and elsewhere around the world, but it's definitely not what it once was. Some languages survive, and others do not. But Gaelic definitely had a beautiful and mysterious quality to it, not all of which was thanks to the accents of the people who spoke it.

The names that have lived on from the Gaelic tradition are still very popular. Names like "Donald" and "Alan" trace their roots to Gaelic, so they've been around for a while even if most people don't realize it. Other names like "Saoirse" or "Siobhan" will pop up rarely and confuse a lot of English speakers when it comes to their pronunciation but still charm us because of how unique they sound. And the best thing about all these names is that they tend to have very colorful and interesting meanings. Any name should have a meaning, but we don't always know what it is. But if you know yourself, and what kind of person that you are, we can retroactively give you the perfect Gaelic name. Take the quiz and see for yourself!
