About This Quiz

From the very beginning, "Luther" was a television programme about darkness confronting darkness. DCI John Luther is a genius detective, and a man capable of the depraved indifference needed to let a suspect fall into a pit. He has tremendous empathy — a conduit to the victims he represents — but also a connection to every psychopath he confronts in his duties as a police officer. Even Luther's personal life is full of contradictions.

On the one hand, there are police officers he calls friends, who he does not realize are thoroughly compromised, perhaps even worse than he is. On the other hand, the brilliant detective is unable to tell that his estranged wife is in a relationship with another man until, at this discovery, he cracks psychologically. In a world where a hero is capable of explosive violence, and a sociopath is capable of love, anything is possible.

The popularity of "Luther" is tied to how well its audience identifies with the characters. Each character is broken in some way, and admirable in some other way. As an audience, we aspire to their virtues, and sympathize with some of their foibles, at least until we see the depth of those faults. Match your personality disorder to the minds of the denizens of John Luther's London and find out which "Luther" character you are!
