"Voltron: Legendary Defender" took a cool and quirky show idea from the '80s and brought it back into the present with a little more depth and flavor than it ever had in the past. At the same time, it maintained what made the original '80s version so exciting to begin with, which is, if we're being honest here, giant robot lions that merge to form an even bigger robot warrior who fights other terrifying robot monsters in outer space! No matter where you're from in the universe, that's pretty awesome. 

The Paladins in Netflix's series are a diverse and interesting mix of characters. From Hunk, the Yellow Paladin, with his big appetite and his heart of gold to Pidge, the Green Paladin, with her exceptional intellect and bravery, to Keith, the Red/Black Paladin who leads the team into battle and fights fiercely, there's a personality type here to represent just about everyone in the world. That's the key to a crew like the Voltron Paladins: You need to be able to relate to see yourself piloting that Lion, to feel like you get what they're thinking and feeling in any given situation. Even if it's "just" a cartoon, it's still pretty intense and dramatic and that's what makes it so exciting.
