Resident Evil, also known as Biohazard in many parts of the world, is a multimedia franchise which is owned by the Japanese video game company Capcom. The franchise is centered around a post-apocalyptic world which has been overrun by zombies and other scary monsters which were all created by the Umbrella Corporation. 

The first of the franchise was the Resident Evil video game which was released in 1996 on PlayStation. Since then, the company has grown to include many sequels in the video game realm, as well as branching out into the movie scene, making it one of the most successful franchises to do so. 

Some of the series' characters have made almost every game list, from the most memorable characters to the worst villains in the video game world. Some of the most popular characters include  Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, Albert Wesker and Chris Redfield. They have appeared in most of the video games and movies, making them extremely popular for specific reasons.
