About This Quiz

When World War I broke out in 1914, countries immediately knew it would be a different kind of war than what the world was used to. No longer would two opposing sides line up directly against one another and take shots until the other side surrendered. No, modern weapons made the days of the firing line obsolete. Armies who operated this way were annihilated as new arsenals made warfare much more deadly. Instead, trench warfare became the norm, and tanks and mustard gas were two of the greatest strategies for success.

Ultimately, the war did come to a close, and the world believed it was finally at peace. After all, no one thought another gruesome war like that was possible. However, in less than half a century, the world was engulfed in another global conflict that made World War I seem like a little spat. The weapons grew stronger, the dislike between countries was much more intense, and the range of the conflict extended further. It was a dark time in human history.
