Heavy metal music is a kind of rock music developed sometime between the 1960s and early 1970s in the United Kingdom. This kind of music has roots in other genres including blues, psychedelic, and acid rock, and it is known for being an excessively loud and distorted sound for the guitar solos. 

When the genre of music was first introduced, it was met with a lot of criticism, not only because of how loud it is but also because many people believed that it stemmed from devil worship. The music was also frowned upon because said to encourage anger and sexual promiscuity. Despite that, many people embraced it and the ever increasing fan base and supports are fittingly called "metalheads."

Some of the people and groups who have been pioneers in the genre include Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, Judas Priest, Slipknot, Korn, Mötley Crüe and Guns N 'Roses.
