An era describes a specific time frame throughout history that is classified due to similarities and commonalities in that time frame. The eras are classified by historians who research different years and try to find a common theme among them. Once that is found, they put all of those years into a category with a name that describes that era and what it was known for. There are three main eras that break up all of history. There is the Ancient Period, the Middle Ages and the Modern Era. Within those main eras are smaller ones that describe even more specific periods of time.

There are no rules for how long or short an era can be, it can really be any length of time in which a group of years have something in common. Because of that, some things might not be so different from era to era, but if the era is long, almost everything will be different, especially the clothes. As new materials are discovered and created, new machines are invented and new styles take over, it moves very quickly.
